Returns of old electronic devices
Information about the possibililty to return an old electronical device or batteries.
As a distributor with an online shop, we fulfil our obligations to take back used electrical appliances and batteries and to treat and recycle them in an environmentally friendly manner in accordance with the Ordinance on Waste Electrical Equipment (EAG-VO) (Federal Law Gazette II No. 121/2005) and the Ordinance on Batteries (Federal Law Gazette II No. 159/2008).
We therefore hereby inform our customers about the possibility of returning an old electrical appliance or batteries if the legal requirements are met. According to § 5 (2) of the Ordinance on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (Elektroaltgeräteverordnung - EAG-VO) "the final distributor is obliged, at the request of the final consumer, to take back WEEE from private households at least free of charge, provided that the returned equipment is of an equivalent type and has fulfilled the same function as the equipment handed over. Final distributors are exempt from the obligation if their sales area is less than 150 m2 and the final distributor informs the final consumers of the exemption from the take-back obligation, in particular by clearly informing them in the cash desk area of the business premises. Final distributors who take back WEEE from private households free of charge shall inform final consumers thereof by means of clear information, in particular in the cash desk area of the business premises".
According to Article 5(3) of the WEEE Ordinance, "for legal transactions in which the final distributor sells electrical and electronic equipment for private households by mail order, including electronic mail order, the final distributor may fulfil its obligation to take back WEEE on a cash-on-delivery basis pursuant to paragraph 2 by setting up at least two publicly accessible points in each political district where WEEE from private households can be handed in by final consumers. These points and their opening hours shall be made known to the final consumer by means of clear information, in particular in advertising materials and on the website of the mail-order firm.".
Pursuant to § 9 (1a) of the Battery Ordinance, "final distributors of portable batteries shall clearly and comprehensibly inform final consumers in a conspicuous place, if possible in the cash desk area of the business premises, about the free return of spent portable batteries. Furthermore, final distributors of portable batteries shall place easily recognisable collection containers for spent portable batteries in an easily accessible and clearly visible place in the business premises. If certain spent portable batteries are to be taken back free of charge directly from an employee and not via the collection container, this must also be clearly and visibly indicated on the business premises".
According to § 9 (2) of the Battery Ordinance, "for legal transactions in which the final distributor sells portable batteries by mail order, including electronic mail order, the final distributor may fulfil its take-back obligation pursuant to subsection (1)(4) by setting up at least two publicly accessible points per political district where spent portable batteries can be handed in by final consumers. These points and their opening hours shall be made known to the final consumer in a suitable manner." If the requirements for the return of WEEE or batteries are met, they can be returned by post or parcel service, in the case of large electrical appliances by delivery service to our address:
